Lake Tovel

Lake Tovel is famous throughout Europe for its uniqueness of turning red every summer due to some of the algae found there.

Unfortunately, this phenomenon has not occurred for a while now but the lake still remains a very popular tourist destination for its beauty and its colours, which today vary from blue to green. In addition, its water is really clear, so much so that many call it the Caribbean sea of Trentino, although here you will not find white sand but the beautiful view of the Dolomites.

Sanctuary of San Romedio

The Sanctuary of San Romedio stands on a steep rocky cliff, over 70 metres high, and was built by medieval Christians in honour of San Romedio of Thaur. Inside the sanctuary, the saint's tomb can still be found, carved into the rock, the whole monastery having been built around it.

It is a lovely walk to get to the sanctuary as you begin in Sanzeno, pass through the rock, which gives unique views for anyone who is walking the full 3km in length.

Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a brown bear that is kept within the wildlife area of the sanctuary, as this animal is connected this region. Legend has it that San Romedio was travelling by horse to Trento for a meeting with the bishop. During the journey, a brown bear attacked the travellers, tearing the horse to pieces. However, San Romedio was able to mollify the beast, riding it up to Trento.

You will cruise through passages carved into the rock, through gorges and waterfalls to come upon some unique places, with views and landscapes that few have seen. An intense experience, but free from danger and suitable for the whole family. This is a half-day excursion with much exploring.

Castles in the Val di Non

The area around Tuenno is also known as the Valley of the Castles. The reason is easy to understand as in centuries past, there were many nobles who decided to build their home in these beautiful regions.

Thun Castle - one of the most beautiful and best preserved castles in Europe. Today, you can visit the museum with its walls and interiors having been completely restored. Upon entering the castle, you will be transported back to the Middle Ages and daily life back then. Inside the rooms there are also many portraits of the noble families, portraits by artists who were more or less well-known but they have been well maintained and restored. A true medieval art gallery.

Castel Valer - the elegant and noble castle that stands out among the surrounding apple orchards. More than a thousand years of history live within it, continuing to be written, as the same noble family still lives in it today. A guided tour will take you to visit the whole castle including the cellars, the coats of arms hall, the gardens and courtyard, where you can admire the views of the surrounding valley.

Castel Nanno - located near Castel Valer, its shape reminds us of the slopes of the Brenta that surrounds it. Being situated on a hill and having been built to great height, Castel Nanno completely dominates the area and can be seen by all who are passing by. Inside the castle, all stories and legends have mixed together, from lovers Melisenda and Ludovico to witches burned alive at the stake. An exciting journey through history.
